Wireless Dynamics Sensor System |
Wireless
Dynamics Sensor System
Order Code: WDSS |
Force. Acceleration.

The Wireless Dynamics Sensor
System (WDSS) mounts easily on
the Vernier
Dynamics System for many
physics experiments
|
A Truly Wireless System
Last year, we introduced a new, low-friction Vernier
Dynamics System. This year, we eliminated
another source of friction—the wires. With the
new Wireless Dynamics Sensor System, your carts
will be free to roll wherever the experiment takes
them!
All in One. All Wireless.
The Wireless Dynamics Sensor System combines a
3-axis accelerometer, altimeter, and force sensor
into one unit that communicates wirelessly with
your computer using Bluetooth® wireless
technology. You can also use it as a stand-alone
data logger. It's more than just a wireless
sensor; it's a data-collection system completely
free of cables.
|
 |
| Force
Sensor: Custom load cell provides
accurate, repeatable results. |
Altimeter:
Record changes in altitude for roller-coaster
physics. |
3-Axis
Accelerometer : Three orthogonally
mounted sensors let you measure acceleration in
all directions. |
Wireless
Communication : Bluetooth® wireless
technology transmits data to a supported device.
|
 |
| Start/Stop
Button : Simple, one-button operation
allows you to start and stop data collection when
away from the computer. |
Multiple
Mounting Options : Mount the device in
almost any orientation using standard hardware. |
On-Board
Memory : Retains data even after the unit
is turned off. |
Additional
Hook :
Allows the device to be mounted in-line for
tension and pendulum experiments. |
 |
A Complete System
The Wireless Dynamics Sensor System includes a
high capacity Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery and
charger, AAA alkaline battery holder (allows you
to use AAA batteries instead of the rechargeable
battery), bumpers for collisions, hooks for
mounting the unit in different positions, mounting
hardware for Vernier and other dynamics carts, and
manual.

Activities Booklet
Download our booklet that contains six
activities using the Vernier Wireless Dynamic
Sensor System and Vernier Logger
Pro software for collecting,
displaying, printing, graphing, and analyzing
data. Many of the data-collection features of the
WDSS are illustrated in these activities,
providing a foundation to explore accelerations,
forces and their interrelationships. The
activities adapted from teacher training materials
created by Chris Butlin, Educational Consultant,
York, UK.
Here are the seven labs in the booklet:
- WDSS Bungee Jumper
- Centripetal Accelerations on a Model
Centrifuge
- Mission to Titan - Investigating Surface
Composition
- Physics at Amusement Parks
- Newton's Second Law
- Newton's Third Law
- Investigating Collisions with Crumple Zones

Go for a Ride
Let your students experience physics with
activities from the Amusement
Park Physics! Use data-collection
technology to study roller-coaster physics and
other amusement park rides. Now you can measure
altitude changes and acceleration with the
Wireless Dynamics Sensor System, then transfer the
data wirelessly to your computer for analysis and
comparison. Use a Data
Vest to hold the Wireless Dynamics Sensor
System in place during the ride.
All Systems Connected
The WDSS can be used alone, with one or more
additional WDSS units, or with other interfaces
such as a LabPro.
The WDSS does not require a LabPro, but it can be
used to take data simultaneously with a LabPro or
other devices. Here are some common combinations:
- Two WDSS units connected by Bluetooth to a
single computer for Newton's Third Law
experiments.
- A WDSS used with a LabPro, Motion
Detector, and a Dual
Range Force Sensor for impulse-momentum
experiments.
- A WDSS with a Go!
Link and a Dual Range Force Sensor for
Newton's Third Law experiments.
- A WDSS, a Go!Motion,
and a Vernier Dynamics System create an
elegant impulse-momentum experiment setup.
For all the combinations, you will need a copy of
our award-winning Logger Pro 3 software
to use a WDSS. One purchase of Logger Pro
3 includes a site license for your school and
student computers as well as free incremental
updates. Learn
